“Posthuman portrait (Blue wafer)” (2026), is an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle paper in which a A blue silicon wafer almost completely covers the face of a sculptural portrait of a Roman emperor. Stone and silicon belong to the same mineral world but have been transformed through technological processes separated by centuries. Stone is extracted and worked through subtraction in order to produce the appearance of a body and preserve an identity, while silicon is purified, crystallised and structured at a microscopic scale to enable the processing, storage and circulation of data. Digital media depend on minerals, metals and geological resources that are extracted from the earth and reorganised into technical systems. Matter and information therefore remain closely linked, connecting contemporary computation with much older forms of material inscription and preservation.
