ju young kim presents two new editions in conjunction with her current exhibition at max goelitz

As part of her current solo exhibition addresses without names, at max goelitz, Ju Young Kim presents two new multiples. The editions explore central themes of the exhibition and delve further into Kim’s exploration of transitional spaces, temporary stays, and moments of intimacy.

On 17 October, the works will be presented at the gallery in Munich as part of a launch event and will be available for purchase on site from 2 pm onwards. Further information about the two multiples will be shared shortly before the event.

Published in a limited edition of 50 copies, one of the two multiples brings together photographs of travel impressions, studio shots from the creation of the works, and inspirations related to the exhibition addresses without names. The images are compiled in the form of a fabric sample book, similar to those found at textile markets in Seoul. Three different versions each combine a unique selection of photographs with various textile covers. The Multiple thus becomes an object that straddles the line between a photographic archive, a collection of materials, and a personal memory. It was created in collaboration with the Seoul-based design studio 2e magazine.

For the other multiple addresses without names, Kim takes the exhibition title as a point of departure and condenses questions of comfort and belonging into an everyday object. She transfers motifs from her works onto stainless steel doorbell plaques. The 20 pieces refer to the address as a sign of presence and permanence, yet at the same time to its constant changeability in a globally interconnected world. When places and residents change, a familiar environment can still travel with us through memories inscribed in objects and patterns. The design was created in collaboration with Maximilian Schachtner from Munich.

These two multiples continue a series of editions that accompany Kim’s exhibitions and works, translating individual aspects of her artistic practice into everyday formats.
