In the wall piece "black memory I [distorted lashing coordinates]" (2024), Rosanna Marie Pondorf combines parts of a server rack with a laser-engraved marble slab depicting distorted simulations of electromagnetic waves that trace the energy fields of solar storms. These natural phenomena can distort electromagnetic fields, disrupt technical systems, and, in extreme cases, cause global blackouts. Additionally, two black anal whips are affixed to the stone slab, hanging limply downward like deconstructed phallic symbols. "black memory I [distorted lashing coordinates]" reflects the fragility of knowledge systems, power structures, and the relentless circulation of data and images. Marble, a classical material in art history, collides with digital imagery, further accentuating tensions between permanence and transience. In her work, Pondorf explores the interferences between digital and physical reality, as well as the traces left by different energies – whether economic, political, or physical – on our world.
