“Litho-ergonomy” (2021) shows a hand grasping a stone that appears to fit effortlessly into the palm. The precise fit blurs the boundary between body and object: what seems to be a tool is at once relic, imprint, and extension. In this quiet gesture, the tension between nature and culture, between geological form and human intention, is condensed. The photograph alludes to early tools and thus to the interplay of form, function, and body. Yet the stone is not shaped, but found—still, it seems made for the hand. This ambivalence reveals the fluid transition between the organic and the technical, the grown and the made, which underlies much of Lamas’s work.
