The World Without Us presents artistic works that engage with concepts such as "Deep Time", time scales of billions of years in which human existence is but a fleeting moment, and "Cosmic Horror", a sensation between fascination and dread in the face of nonhuman entities that exceed our comprehension of time and space. Among the featured works is Nicolás Lamas with his sculpture The Agony of the Past (2023).
In this work, Lamas explores the intersection of geological material and human knowledge. A book trapped within marble becomes a symbol of understanding, while the stone itself bears traces of time and culture. The sculpture creates a tension between materiality and immateriality, authority, symbolism and transience.
