Curated by MACA Director Yang Beichen, Spit and Image marks the first solo exhibition in China by artist duo Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė. Bringing together landmark works and new commissions, the exhibition unfolds as a landscape of doubleness and in-betweenness, where mirrors, membranes, scents, and screens blur the lines between self and other, real and virtual, body and technology.
Drawing on Slavic and Baltic ancestrality, the artists interlace myth, hauntology, and speculative futures to reanimate marginalized voices and non-modern subjectivities. Works across both floors of MACA explore shifting states of reflection, fragmentation, and transformation.
