The exhibition DREI SEKUNDEN picks up on the idea that our consciousness only experiences the "now" in three-second-long islands of time before it becomes a memory. In this narrow gap between the past and the future, the artists in the exhibition explore the fleeting and the absent. Their works make the ephemeral tangible and show absence not as a loss, but as a prerequisite for the present: only what passes away can have been present.
Troika present their series Obsolete Landscapes (2024), which examines the digital representation and disappearance of natural landscapes. From iconic Apple desktop backgrounds of Californian scenes since 2014, they remove all landscape elements so that only the sky remains. In this way, the aestheticization and trivialization of nature in digital space is questioned, as is the technological progress that erodes these landscapes with every update through resource depletion and digital obsolescence. The works encourage us not to view nature as an interchangeable resource and to see the sky as a universal symbol critical of capitalism.
