the work of gary kuehn at mumok shows the change in the understanding of material in the 60s

The exhibition Mapping the 60s at mumok explores the extent to which today's substantial sociopolitical movements of the twenty-first century such as Black Lives Matter and #MeToo are rooted in the upheavals of the 1960s.

In artistic terms, the 1960s were characterized by radical new beginnings. Trends such as Pop Art, Fluxus, Conceptual and Minimal Art, which still characterize the mumok today, emerged during this phase. With artists such as Gary Kuehn - representative of 'Process Art' - the exhibition shows how much the formal language and understanding of materials changed at that time.
