    For Brigitte Kowanz (*1957 in Vienna, AT) light is perception, life, information and communication. The Internet became broadly accessible to the public in the first half of the 1990s. In 1995, while Brigitte Kowanz was developing the concept for this work, the World Wide Web was still a micro-medium for technology enthusiasts. This social development was succeeded by the fourth revolution, imparting fundamental changes and a redesign of society, life, labor, the handling of knowledge, interpersonal relationships and the self. In today’s world, we are perpetually immersed in a continuous flow of information and tend to forget the technologies and media behind the endless data dissemination thanks to the omnipresence of the World Wide Web and the latest digital and location-independent technologies and media. How do we live surrounded and permeated by immersive technologies – caught in an invisible net of symbols and codes? How do we deal with information dissemination and processing? Brigitte Kowanz's work is an early and ironic testimony to the reflection of the advancing information and network society.
